Letter from Mrs. Lagan - School Closure

6th Jan 2021

Dear Parents,

Regrettably once again we find ourselves embarking on another period of lockdown. As a school principal and a parent myself I recognise that this is not ideal for anyone. However, having monitored media reports closely over the last few days: It appears that lockdown is something which is necessary at this time.

As you are aware, Mr. Weir’s plans for school closure has changed dramatically in recent weeks. I would like to reassure you that despite the ambiguity involved, your child’s well-being and educational progression remains our top priority.

This week teachers prepared and posted work online via our new platform SEESAW. Thank you all for signing up to SEESAW so promptly. It has been received well by the school community. Teachers will again prepare and post next week’s work online (wk. beginning 11th January’21). This will be available to view on SEESAW this Friday (8th January’21).

However, in the knowledge that schools will now be closed for five weeks: We have decided to compile ‘Home Packs’ to work in tandem with SEESAW. As a mother of four children, I’m acutely aware how difficult it can be for all children in one household to completely learn online. I appreciate that there can be issues with access to devices; effective WIFI and printing of resources. Consequently, we feel that it would make things easier for parents and children to have hard copies of their work. SEESAW will continue to work as normal in the background ensuring optimum communication between home and school. These packs (encompassing four weeks of work / homework) will be ready for collection on Thursday 14th January 2021 between 2-6pm. You will be informed via SEESAW of a location to collect your child’s home pack.

We appreciate your co-operation; patience and understanding in these extraordinary times. On Christmas Day a Priest told me that we are all weathering the same storm but in very different boats…be kind…be considerate...empathise. We wish you and your family well in 2021 and very much look forward to seeing the boys and girls in February.

Our school is closed until Monday 22nd February 2021. However, we will provide assistance for vulnerable children and children of key workers who have no safe, alternative, viable options. I should stress at this point to avoid confusion: There will be no face to face teaching in school, only supervised learning. There will be no buses running and no school dinners provided. If you wish to avail of assistance: Please email the school before 5:00pm on Thursday 7th January 2021.

Warmest regards,

Mrs. Louise Lagan
