Parent Information 7/6/2020

7th Jun 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we enter weeks 11 and 12 of remote learning and the month of June, I would like to inform you that the next couple of weeks are going to be 'alternative learning' weeks.  We have decided to share some ideas and activities which are less formal in nature, but with key learning experiences involved.  This may also give families a chance to revise and revisit some of the work already shared in the class pages and to consolidate some of the learning covered to date, including spellings.

At present I do not know what September may look like.  I am feeling positive however that things are 'not as bad' as what was expected during this pandemic.  We will be following all guidance from the Department of Education, the Education Authority and the CCMS on what to do in September.  A questionnaire will be shared to parents in the next few weeks to collect some more information on what suits your family best, and what we as a school can do to support you.  We truely value your input.  There has been the suggestion of a 'blended home/school' approach to learning, and our staff are completing training on this in connection with the Education Authority so that we are ready for all eventualities.

I would like to remind parents/guardians that all staff contact details are included in the remote learning policy if you wish to share any work for feedback, or for any advice.

Annual school reports will be available to collect from the school (with respect of social distancing) on Monday  22nd June 11am-1pm.

Our new Primary 1 children have received lots of information in the post this week- please keep hold of all data collection forms until the school reopens.  If you haven't already please email me your contact details to be added onto our text messaging service: smccafferty143@c2kni.net.

Congratulations to all our wonderful Primary 7 children, who were notified this week of their post primary placements.  You all have worked so hard to gain a place, and take the next steps in your education.  Remember you are always a member of the St. Finlough's Primary School family and you are always welcome at our school.  We are so proud of you all.

There will be a live streamed end of year mass offered for our school community on YouTube on the last week of June- we will keep you posted with more details soon.

We have had to temporarily change our facebook name, but all information is the same as before and we are hoping to change it back soon.

The school's safeguarding and child protection procedures for parents/guardians who want to raise a child protection concern are still in place to ensure the safety of all children and young people in the community.  If you have a concern, you can talk to myself or Miss Herron.  you can also bring a concern to the chairperson of the Board of Governors, Conall Doherty.  At any time a parent/guardian can talk to a social worker at the Gateway team (Western Trust) Tel: 02871314090 or the PSNI 999 (urgent) or 101 (non-urgnet).

Please keep safe,

Kind regards,

Mrs S. McCafferty
